| Description: |
The John Hollenbeck Large Ensemble is paving the way for big bands in the contemporary jazz world. Known for their audacious examples of the power of big-band jazz to express emotions well beyond swing-era clichés, the group uses its traditional instrumentation to allow it to successfully branch into new and nontraditional music. Guggenheim Award-winning composer and bandleader John Hollenbeck creates music for the 18-piece ensemble that is influenced by jazz great Bob Brookmeyer and inspired by Hollenbeck’s study of Schoenberg, Ligeti and human movement. |
